雪が降り積もり、薄靄がかかったようなパリの情景が広がります。マルケは若い頃からパリのセーヌ川ほとりにアトリエを構え、その眺めを描き続けました。1931年には、セーヌ川にかかる橋ポン･ヌフ近くの建物5階に引っ越しました。
1946年冬、マルケは病に倒れ、翌年1月に手術を受けます。快復後、マルケは再びパリのアトリエからの眺めを描き始めますが、夏には帰らぬ人となりました。絶筆はアトリエからの雪景色だったといいます。本作には一人の画家が愛し続けたパリの眺めが広がっています。
A snowy and misty scene of Paris unfolds. From a young age, Marquet set up his studio along the banks of the Seine and continued to paint its views. In 1931, he moved to the fifth floor of a building near the Pont Neuf bridge over the Seine.
In the winter of 1946, Marquet fell ill and underwent surgery in January of the following year. After recovering, he began painting the view from his Paris studio again, but he passed away in the summer. It is said that his final work was a snow scene from his studio. This painting captures the view of Paris that the artist loved throughout his life.
