Primary colors such as red, yellow, and blue are painted using divided brushstrokes. The surface of the water and the reflection of light, depicted through this technique, vividly revive the impression of the waterside that the 19-year-old Signac experienced. Signac was impressed by the works and colors of Monet, which he saw at the age of 16, and learned techniques such as divided brushstrokes and optical mixing from him. In this work, the influence of Monet can be seen in the touches used to depict the surface of the river.
