本作はコレクター上原昭二氏が初めて手に入れた油彩画です。当初、そのよさがわからなかったものの、信頼する画商の薦めもあり、この作品を購入したといいます。上原はこの作品を眺めるうちに徐々に魅せられ、のちには｢足長お嬢さん｣の愛称で親しむようになりました。

購入当初、実家で暮らしていた上原は｢買ってから3年間も分不相応なことをしたと怒られるのが怖くて、父に見られないよう押し入れに隠していました｣。この作品を初めて部屋に飾ったのは、自分の家を持ったときだったといいます。上原近代美術館のコレクションのはじまりを象徴する作品です。

This work was the first oil painting acquired by collector Shoji Uehara. Although he initially did not understand its value, he purchased it on the recommendation of a trusted art dealer. As Uehara gazed at the painting, he gradually became captivated by it and later affectionately referred to it as 'Miss Long Legs.'

At the time of purchase, Uehara was living with his parents and said, 'For three years after buying it, I was afraid of being scolded for doing something beyond my means, so I hid it in the closet to keep it from my father.' He first displayed the painting in his room when he got his own house. This work symbolizes the beginning of the Uehara Museum of Modern Art's collection.
